Regret

A promise I was asked
And a promise I did make
It changed things a lot
And many decisions I was to take

Would I make the same promise?
Or will I refrain?
Will I do it the same and just the same
Do it all, All over again?

The struggles I do accept
And the pain I do agree
Its the price I paid
For my soul to breathe free

If love is the cost of freedom
Then so it shall be
No one shall rob it, Nor shall one protect
My freedom was my own
And mine alone to defend

Would I make the same choice?
Or will I refrain?
Will I do it the same and just the same
Do it all, All over again?

There were mistakes, there had to be
Success was sweet
But it was failure that taught
That the ones to forge a character
Are the falls not caught

I trusted and was betrayed
It led me to conflict - led me to strife
I loved and was burnt
It unknowingly shaped - the contours of my life

Would I make the same choice?
Or will I refrain?
Will I do it the same and just the same
Do it all, All over again?

I think I will, for it was worth it
For one smile of her eyes Or one kiss of her lips
I would happily take eternal agony
For a touch of her hair on my fingertips

I think I will, for it was worth it
For a fair lady once asked of a little boy
Promise me will you, That you will
"Listen to what your heart says
And have the courage to follow it"
And I had promised
"Yes, my lady - I will"

I think the poem is well written. In general, nothing comes for free in life. You always have to pay a price. A lot of times, you just don't know what you are paying. I see the romantic spirit of the poem. The idea makes sense to my emotional mind. But realistically speaking, if you make a mistake once, you are naive... make the same mistake a second time and you are a.....

The heart and mind are two conflicting slavedrivers who keep prodding you in opposite directions. There's no escaping the insanities, honey!

I like Ashwini's comment. Especially the line "A lot of times, you just dont know what you are paying."

As an afterthought - I think some costs are such that - the only way you are gonna pay it - is if you dont know it up front. Which is what I was referring to in the poem, and then you come to the question - now - knowing the cost - would u wanna do it again! - Sanket

Everyone is going to hurt u sooner or later,,, all u have to know is whether it was worth the pain
so its like asking a mother
would you want your child
she knows she has to undergo painful labor she would still not exchange her children even if they were deaf or dumb
for anyone in the world.

What say?/

no
the pain u talk is temporary
the pain I talk - well it will remain with u for the rest
and u have to find a way to live with it
and thats where the question of choosing it again matters more
temp pain anyone can take
but pain that changed who u were
thats different - Sanket

Here is how I see it...
Life is a very beautiful Mystery...
Which get Unravelled with time..
None of us are quite sure of the effects some of our decisions would have in future..
If you have figured out this then I believe there would be no fun in living life...
But I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!!
AND SOMETIMES THIS IDEOLOGY HELPS ME RATIONALIZE AND REASON OUT THE BEST!!
You took a decision which seemed the BEST ONE AT THAT MOMENT!!
so LET IT BE!!!!
And Stand for it... Rest everything will fall in PLACE!!
Good Luck!!

How true that is and yet people seem to not give more credit to those falls. It is always our hard days, the storms that we have weathered that shape us
